World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. Upgrades can also boost bonuses like Crit chance and damage from PvE.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the level of the item rises.
Components
Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, armor, and weapons to give them a stat boost or an extra effect. They can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors trading or looting. Some upgrades also have special cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can only be used on equipment with a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to a blue level before the component can be used. In contrast to other mods components can only be used once; they cannot be applied multiple times or replaced with new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a kind of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascending equipment, as other items that are not ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear that is ascended or completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.
